(Archived) Praxair Develops Innovative Supply System for Chevron and Total Gas and Power

DANBURY, Conn., April 15, 2010 — Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) has installed a unique nitrogen supply system for Chevron USA, Inc. and Total Gas and Power North America Inc. at the outlet of the Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal located in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The Praxair system allows for large volumes of liquid nitrogen to be delivered, pumped, vaporized and transported for injection into the Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipeline system that connects the Sabine Pass LNG receiving terminal with various other natural gas pipelines.

Supplies of LNG with energy content greater than the allowable maximum can be brought into specification by blending the LNG with nitrogen. Chevron and Total Gas and Power sought a cost-effective nitrogen-supply system that would enable them to process LNG shipments whenever required.

“We are looking forward to helping both Chevron and Total Gas and Power expand their natural gas supply network by enabling them to accept shipments outside of specification limits,” said John Panikar, vice president, South Region, for Praxair’s North American Industrial Gases business unit.

Praxair’s system includes liquid nitrogen transport unloading stations, large liquid nitrogen storage tanks, nitrogen pumping services tie-in stations, and a control system capable of calculating the quantity of nitrogen required based on natural gas volumes and quality coming from the LNG receiving terminal.
