(Archived) Praxair Selected as a Global Leader in Carbon Performance and Disclosure

DANBURY, Conn., September 21, 2010 — For the third consecutive year, Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX) has been included in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, one of only six companies to achieve this distinction. Praxair is ranked No. 9 on the Global Carbon Disclosure Index. Praxair was also given the highest rating, an “A”, on the inaugural Carbon Performance Leadership Index and is one of only two U.S.-based firms listed on both indexes. Praxair is the only industrial gases company selected for the Global and North American indexes.

The global carbon disclosure and performance indexes are comprised of the leading 51 and 48 companies, respectively, among 500 of the world's largest corporations. The disclosure index recognizes the quality and completeness of the selected companies’ reporting on carbon management. The new performance index recognizes these companies’ climate-change strategy, governance, stakeholder communications, reporting and emissions reduction, as reported in their responses to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s annual questionnaire.

"Our selection reflects the Praxair team’s ongoing commitment to our greenhouse-gas goals which focus on reducing our environmental footprint in all areas and demonstrating the value we provide to our customers by improving their energy efficiency and environmental performance,” said Riva Krut, Praxair's director of sustainability.

Praxair’s response to the Carbon Disclosure Project questionnaire can be found on the company’s website, www.praxair.com, under Corporate Responsibility>Sustainable Development>Reports.

An independent, non-profit organization, CDP collects climate change data from 2,500 corporations around the globe and has assembled the world’s most extensive corporate greenhouse gas emissions database.
